Visit of Chinese
Scientists from Bamboo Engineering Research Centre (BERC) of
Nanjing Forestry University, China to Tripura.
A team of Chinese Scientists from Bamboo Engineering Research
Centre (BERC) of Nanjing Forestry University, China headed by
Prof. Zhang Qisheng, Professor & Director BERC; Prof. Jiang
Shenxue, Professor BERC and Dr. Mingie Guan, Associate
Researcher, BERC visited Tripura from 9th December, 2007 to
12th December, 2007.

expressed their
desire to extend co-operation in the field of transfer of
technology for setting up of Bamboo based Industry utililizing
Muli Bamboo (Melocana baccifera). Then they held a series of
discussions with the Managing Director, TFDPC Ltd.; Principal
Chief Conservator of Forests, Tripura ; Chief Secretary, Govt.
of Tripura; Hon’ble Forest Minister, Tripura and Hon’ble Chief
Minister, Tripura from 9th to 11th December, 2007. They also
visited Muli Bamboo Forests at Teliamura Forest Division,
Tripura and also visited Tripura University and interacted
with the Vice Chancellor of Tripura University on 10th
December, 2007. On 11th December, 2007 the Chinese Scientists
attended the technical consultation on “Bilateral co-operation
between Scientists from Bamboo Engineering Research Centre (BERC)
of Nanjing Forestry University, China and Entrepreneurs from
Tripura under the Chairmanship of Dr. V.K. Bahuguna,
Additional PCCF Tripura and Managing Director TFDPC Ltd.
During the interaction they shared their experience regarding
Bamboo based Industries.
On 11th December,
2007 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between
Tripura Forest Development & Plantation Corporation Ltd. and
Bamboo Engineering Research Centre of Nanjing Forestry
University, China regarding Bilateral Cooperation in the field
of setting up of Bamboo based Industries in Tripura using Muli
Bamboo. This MoU was signed in the presence of Hon’ble Forest
Minister, Tripura; Chief Secretary, Govt. of Tripura and
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Tripura at Agartala,
Tripura.
